Department of Commerce Celebrates Commercial Deals Supporting 117,000 American Jobs
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK – This week, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) championed billions of dollars in commercial deals, from wide-body passenger jets to heavy-haul locomotives deals that strengthen U.S. manufacturing. Altogether, these deals support more than 117,000 American jobs and affirm U.S. global leadership across the transportation sector. These commercial deals include Pittsburgh-based Wabtec Corporation with the Kyrgyz Republic and Guinea, and the Boeing Company with Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Turkish Airlines. The agreements were secured with individual signing ceremonies along the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York City.
“These deals are a prime example of how the U.S. government is helping American industry compete and succeed in markets around the world,” said Under Secretary William Kimmitt. “The International Trade Administration will continue to deliver for American workers by advancing American manufacturing, innovation, and technology in international markets across the globe.”
Boeing Aircraft Deals with Türkiye and Bangladesh
On Wednesday, September 23, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Under Secretary Kimmitt congratulated Boeing, Turkish Airlines, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines on the signings of major purchases of American-made commercial aircraft.
Turkish Airlines
Boeing and Turkish Airlines signed an order for the sale of 100 short-to medium-haul 737 MAX jets, with options for an additional 50. This new contract supports 101,000 U.S. jobs.
This signing builds on a prior major deal and partnership celebrated at UNGA 2025, when Boeing and Turkish Airlines closed the first half of a mega passenger aircraft agreement. That deal was for 75 long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Together, these two agreements represent one of Boeing’s largest commercial aviation partnerships in the global marketplace.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines
Boeing and Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed an order for six 737 MAX and five 787 aircraft valued at $3.5 billion and supporting approximately 13,000 U.S. jobs. Together with the carrier’s largest-ever order for 14 aircraft signed in April 2026, this new deal brings the total to 25 Boeing aircraft sold to Biman Bangladesh Airlines this year.
Wabtec Locomotive Deals with Kyrgyzstan and Guinea
On Monday, September 21, Under Secretary Kimmitt and President and Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM Bank) John Jovanovic celebrated the signings of two new deals between Wabtec Corporation and buyers in the Kyrgyz Republic and Guinea.
The $53 million deal with Kyrgyz Railway (KTJ) for up to 10 locomotives continues a business partnership going back to 2013. With EXIM Bank’s letter and term sheet earlier this month bolstering the case for the purchase, this deal strengthens critical transportation infrastructure and deepens commercial ties between the United States and Central Asia.
In Guinea, a new $700 million contract for support services and supplies tops off cumulative Wabtec sales and service contracts of $1.2 billion. These deals include 140 locomotives, maintenance services, and digital technology solutions.
