China Urges US, Iran to De-escalate After Fresh Round of Airstrikes
According to reports, Beijing expressed deep concern over the latest developments after the US carried out strikes against Iranian military targets.
“China is deeply concerned” over the latest situation, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters in Beijing.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces conducted air operations targeting Iranian military positions in response to the reported downing of a US Army Apache helicopter earlier in the week.
Shortly afterward, Iran’s military headquarters stated that it had launched attacks on US bases across the region in retaliation for American strikes on southern Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the US was testing Tehran’s resolve amid the escalating situation.
However, Chinese officials urged both sides to avoid further escalation, calling on them to “remain calm, exercise restraint, stop escalating tensions, take concrete actions to ease tensions.”
Beijing also called for the use of political and diplomatic channels, encouraging both Washington and Tehran to work toward “early realization of a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire.”
