US-Israeli Strike Kills PMF Member in Western Iraq
The group said the attack targeted the 45th Brigade under the al-Jazira Operations Command around 4 a.m. local time in the al-Qaim district of Anbar province.
Earlier on Tuesday, the PMF noted that more than seven airstrikes by US and Israeli forces had struck its positions across Anbar, damaging communications systems, military vehicles, and several transport units.
Formed in 2014 following a religious edict by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani to combat ISIS (Daesh), the PMF is an Iraqi state-sanctioned security and military umbrella organization. It was formally integrated into Iraq’s armed forces in 2016.
Some factions of the PMF are accused by Washington of maintaining ties to Iran, as Iraqi groups under the so-called “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” have claimed attacks on US bases in the region.
The US and Israel have continued air operations against Iran since February 28, reportedly killing over 1,400 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
