Israeli Strikes on Lebanon Leave 217 Dead

(MENAFN) The human cost of Israel's military campaign in Lebanon has climbed to 217 killed and 798 wounded since Monday, the Lebanese Health Ministry announced Friday, as strikes continued to pound multiple areas across the country.

The Public Health Emergency Operations Center at the ministry said in a formal statement that the casualties were recorded between the early hours of Monday and Friday evening, reflecting nearly five consecutive days of unrelenting bombardment.

The current escalation was set off Monday when Hezbollah launched a barrage of missiles and drones toward Israel, framing the assault as retaliation for two compounding grievances: the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in joint U.S.-Israeli strikes, and what the group described as repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanese soil.

Israel responded with overwhelming force, unleashing massive airstrikes on Hezbollah positions and pushing ground troops into southern Lebanon — a significant tactical escalation that has dramatically widened the scope and intensity of the conflict.
